Results from the June 2020 Farm Journal Story Lead Contest

In May, the eXtension Foundation launched a monthly story lead contest in partnership with Farm Journal in the Farm Journal Monthly Story Lead Contest group here in Connect Extension. Monthly winners, along with their Extension Directors and Administrators, have the chance to work with Farm Journal to further develop their story and have it published in Farm Journal media. The topic area for the June 2020 contest was about reducing food waste and we received several excellent submissions! We’d like to thank everyone that submitted a story lead for June 2020.

@Stacey Stearns, Program Specialist – Educational Outreach, University of Connecticut submitted the winning story lead, Operation Community Impact Delivers Milk & Dairy Products to Food Pantries. UConn 4-H, the youth development program of Extension in the College of Ag, Health, and Natural Resources organized Operation Community Impact to reduce food waste and address community food security. 4-H members and volunteers worked with community partners and EFNEP to deliver milk and dairy products to 10,710 families statewide, distributing 78, 894 pounds of dairy products to 96 food pantries in 57 towns. 99 CAHNR Extension families donated their time and vehicles for distribution.

Congrats to Stacey and the University of Connecticut! We look forward to seeing the story published in Farm Journal.
